Karen Windress joined the non-profit Boyne Tannum HookUp Association Inc. in December 2018 as Treasurer, serving for five years before becoming President in September 2023.  She enjoys volunteering in the Gladstone Community and being a part of a hardworking committee that hosts and coordinates “Australia’s Biggest Family Fishing Competition, a signature event for our Gladstone Region, is pretty darn special!” Karen states. “The HookUp brings together family, friends, businesses, supporters and sponsors from all around Australia,” says Karen. She highlights the Gladstone Region as a top fishing spot, with the southern Great Barrier Reef, local estuaries, and Lake Awoonga Dam nearby.

For women aspiring to embark on a rewarding journey in the world of fishing, Karen offers invaluable advice: “Just do it!” Embrace the opportunity without hesitation and dive into the experience with enthusiasm. Karen encourages women to seize the chance to join their partners and friends on fishing expeditions.
