Experts Weigh In: Gladstone Remains a Strong Contender for Green Metals Industries

Approximately 50 community members gathered earlier this month for the “Green Metals for Gladstone: a community conversation” event, which focused on the Central Queensland region’s potential to become a hub for green metals production. The discussion centred on producing green iron and aluminium using firmed renewable energy, a sector seen as crucial for both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Associate Professor of Engineering Fiona Beck addressed the audience, highlighting Australia’s significant opportunity to decarbonise heavy industry despite recent setbacks in green hydrogen projects.
