Proud Gooreng Gooreng and Gurang man Brandon Butler, who creates under the name Gaba Art, draws inspiration directly from the Gladstone region and surrounding landscapes when designing his artwork. His pieces are shaped by the places he knows and the connections between people, land, and sea that define Central Queensland.
His latest work, ‘We are Santos GLNG’, reflects the journey of natural gas through the region. Rather than presenting this as a purely industrial process, Brandon’s design places it within a broader local and environmental context. At the centre of the piece is a birds eye view of Santos GLNG on Curtis Island. This focal point represents the coming together of the many people involved in the project, including traditional owner groups whose connection to the region remains central throughout local industry development.
