Chris has been a Gladstone local for 17 years. Semi Retired Open Builder Contractor 3 adult children- Kristin(Smith), Andrew (aka Drew) & Briellen (Neill). All have lived and worked in Gladstone. eesChris has a long time partner Lenore (Young), local for 40 years, Businesswoman & Registered Nurse (Aged Care Sector)
Chris has been in the Building Industry for 46 years. Open Unrestricted Builders Licence. Member of Queensland Master Builders for 37 years. Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Building Qld Chapter.
Chris has been semi retired for some years undertaking Project Management and Consultancy Work ( Anglicare – CQ Uni.) – Dispute Mediation and Building Audit Work.
Chris’ building company has been involved in a number of building projects in Queensland. Speculative home building with the Hooker Centenary Group in Brisbane, Principal Contractor (Housing) for the Blair Athol Coal Project, Clermont Central Highlands, Principal Contractor (Housing) Oaky Creek Coal Underground Project Tieri Central Highland, Joint venture housing and unit development in Mackay in the 90’s Joint venture housing in Glen Eden Gladstone late 90’s early 2000’s. General building contracting, operating his own company (Cameron Homes Pty. Ltd) in the Gladstone region early 2000’s. Developed his own townhouse development in West Gladstone in 2005 and decided to hang up his hammer and call it a day.
Chris is a Rotarian of 20 years, served 2 years as President, 3 years as Club Secretary Awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for service to Rotary and the Gladstone community. Continues to support Community projects thru Rotary, Past President of Lions and member of Apex in his earlier days Port Curtis Day Respite Centre Vice President supporting our aged community Queensland Master Builders- Judge for Housing and Construction Awards CQ judging various buildings, in an area stretching from Gladstone to Longreach.
Role as Councillor: Wide ranging experience in Business and the building sector gives him solid foundations for a role as Councillor in the Gladstone Regional Council. Good listener & communicator, Respects the opinion & concerns of the community. As Judge for the CQ Qld. Master Builders Awards he has observed & listened to the building industry in our neighbouring communities.
Experienced the highs and lows of the building /construction industry. and sees the Acknowledges the necessity for good future planning for the Region diversity. Balanced Industrial growth and expansion of our rural community. Balanced growth taking into consideration community, rural and environmental concerns.
Supporting rural and regional areas of our community – affordable housing for the local community – maintain roads, water supply, parks gardens and community amenities.
Chris community involvement in sporting and service clubs gives his a solid understanding of a community needs in the sporting, recreational and cultural areas.
The necessity to support your local community, business and the creation of jobs.
Planning for growth – Future expansion. This is the third BOOM & BUST Gladstone has experiences since the 1970’s – as a Community & as a Council we need to plan for the impact of the next projects.
Interests: Chris enjoys playing golf, going fishing, supporting his Rotary Club and spending time with family and friends.
