Earlier today (26th of July) Gladstone Regional Council held a Planning and Development Committee meeting in regards to the application for a Coles supermarket, liquor store, service station, specialty shops and a food and drink outlet to be developed on the corner of Kirkwood Road and Dixon Drive. The application was refused by Gladstone Regional Council.
Mayor Matt Burnett said the decision was difficult because Council, although encouraging of investment in the region, must ensure that development took place in appropriate areas.
The Mayor said “Council encourages investment in the Gladstone Region but is also tasked with protecting existing commercial centres and ensuring that development takes place in appropriate areas at the right time.”
