$2.4 Billion Boost in Urea Production Proposed for Gladstone 

Gladstone has long been recognised as one of Australia’s industrial powerhouses, but a major new milestone announced by Australian Fertilizer Corporation (AFC) reinforces the region’s growing importance to the nation’s economic future. The company’s offtake agreement of more than $2.4 billion for urea to be produced at its proposed $450 million Gladstone facility is a significant vote of confidence in both the project and the region itself. The agreements cover 100 percent of the plant’s planned annual production of 220,000 metric tonnes of technical grade urea for an initial ten year period, with options to extend for another decade.  

For Gladstone, this is more than just another industrial development. It represents the creation of a new manufacturing industry that could potentially bring jobs, investment, innovation and long term economic security to the region. The project is expected to create around 800 jobs during the construction phase, providing opportunities for local workers, contractors, and businesses. Once operational, the facility will support around 50 permanent jobs, adding to Gladstone’s skilled workforce and helping strengthen the local economy for years to come.
