Australia’s local councils are taking the lead in preparing for the impacts of climate change, with new research showing they are set to invest more than $2 billion over the next five years to help protect their communities.
Launched today at the National General Assembly (NGA) in Canberra, the Adapting Together: Local Government Leadership in a Changing Climate report by the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) highlights the crucial role of councils in climate adaptation. It estimates that council-led investments could deliver up to $4.7 billion in avoided costs and benefits by 2030.
