Gladstone Cricket Incorporated is celebrating the success of its inaugural women’s competition, a milestone that has showcased the talent and courage of female cricketers in the region. For many players, it was their first time on the field, while others returned after long breaks. The competition has provided young girls with a platform to see what an all-female competition looks like, inspiring the next generation of cricketers.
A key player in making this competition a reality was GCI committee member Bede, who researched the other associations and proposed the idea last off-season. With The Glen Cricket Club taking the lead, the competition began in the pre-Christmas season and grew significantly in the post-Christmas season, with the Gladstone Brothers, Yaralla, and BITS joining in.
