The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has announced Summit Hydro Pty Ltd as one of the shortlisted projects for Round 2 of the Federal Government’s Hydrogen Headstart Program, marking a significant milestone for the Gladstone region and its clean energy future.
The Gladstone Green Hydrogen Project, developed through a partnership between Sumitomo Corporation and Rio Tinto, has been included among the nation’s most advanced large-scale renewable hydrogen proposals. The project is expected to play a key role in supporting industrial decarbonisation, encouraging innovation in emerging technologies, and strengthening the long-term resilience of the regional economy. Sumitomo Corporation’s long-standing involvement in the Gladstone region is already well recognised, with strong ties to local industry and investment. The inclusion of its hydrogen project in the latest federal shortlist has been welcomed as another positive step forward, with expectations that successful participation in the Hydrogen Headstart Program could further deepen its contribution to the region’s economic and industrial landscape.
