Gladstone Power Station Celebrates 50 Years Of Operation  

With a total capacity of 1,680 megawatts and delivering much of its electrical output to industrial consumers, Gladstone Power Station recently celebrated 50 years of operation on the 25^th of August, highlighting the contributions of the workers and management teams that helped to shape the industry of Central Queensland over the half-century.  

The largest power station in Queensland, it was first conceived in 1969 following site investigations to determine the best location for a new power plant. Its conception by the Government-designated State Electricity Commission of Queensland made much of the industry now based in the Gladstone Region viable, with construction beginning in 1971.
