Johannes (Johnny) Larsen was from Holberg in Denmark, and he had a dairy farm where K Mart is now. Around 1908, Johnny bought the dairy farm across the road, and marrying his English bride, Mary Steele, he built a slab cottage for them on the property. (Where the Windmill Centre is now).
Their son, William Alfred Larsen married Florence Elizabeth Little in 1923, and they lived in the cottage while working the dairy farm, suppling milk to the town of Gladstone for many years. They raised a son Alexander and a daughter Dorothy. In the 1930’s, Florence planted lovely, shaped Bougainvillea hedges that blossomed, catching the eye of the passing motorists, along with her beautiful flower garden.
