Gladstone’s Sunrise Rotary Club is quietly transforming discarded bicycles into life-changing mobility. The Bikes to Wheelchairs project has already converted more than 60 old bicycles into custom-built wheelchairs, providing independence, dignity, and renewed opportunity to recipients both locally and overseas. What began as a small volunteer effort has steadily grown into a thriving community program, powered by dedication and a strong belief in helping others.
Each Thursday afternoon, the yard comes alive as members, volunteers, and local school students gather to build and paint wheelchairs. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with the sound of tools mixing with conversation and laughter as people of all ages work side by side. These weekly sessions have become more than just a workshop. They are a place of connection, where community spirit is strengthened through shared purpose and simple acts of service.
