Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) recently undertook a voluntary groundwater monitoring program at its three Ports for per-and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS.
Preliminary investigations identified elevated levels of PFAS at some of the testing sites at GPC’s Port Central in Gladstone.
Validation testing will be undertaken at the Port of Gladstone this week, with results expected within two weeks.
Additional groundwater modelling will also be conducted at the sites to help determine the source and extent of the issue.
GPC is committed to engaging with the Gladstone community when the results become available.
The preliminary findings do not relate to water connected to town supplies, and the bores sampled in the Port area are not used for drinking water.
Residents living in close proximity to Port Central have been offered the opportunity to have their bores tested.
The Corporation is continuing to work closely with the Queensland Government throughout this process.
