19 Apr 2019-20 BUDGET BUILDING A STRONG AND SECURE FUTURE FOR FLYNN
Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd is committed to building a stronger and more secure community for the people of Flynn.
“I am proud to have already fought for and delivered $100 million to extend the Gladstone Port Access Road, more than $1 million to beef up the Emerald Saleyards, $750,000 to support landholders in the South Burnett Regional Council area under the Drought Communities program and 84 new fully-funded aged care beds for Gladstone. These new investments will help make our region an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr O’Dowd said. The Liberal and National Government’s 2019-20 Budget announced on April 2nd will provide further benefits for families and businesses across the electorate.
Mr O’Dowd said that the budget will deliver these benefits by funding important local investments and boosting essential services. “By balancing the books and delivering a $7.1 billion surplus, the first in a decade, we can pay for what we promise, create more local jobs by backing our businesses, lower taxes so more families keep more of what they earn. and guarantee critical local services,” Mr O’Dowd added.
“This budget sees even more opportunities delivered for Flynn, including more than $93 million to attract students to regional universities such as CQUniversity, an extra 80,000 apprenticeships in areas of priority skills shortage across the nation and a whopping $100 billion set aside for infrastructure over the next ten years,” Mr O’Dowd continued. “This investment will help to grow our economy and create more opportunity. The Federal Road Safety package will target black spots and council road improvements across Flynn. All this investment is on top of the more than $2 billion already flowing into the roads and bridges of the electorate, including our fair share of major works on the Bruce Highway, $20 million to fix Philip Street in Gladstone, $37 million to improve roads and bridges used by heavy vehicles in the hinterland and the $100 million we’ve got on the table to help fix the Tambo to Springsure Road.”
Mr O’Dowd praised the economic management an LNP Government will offer. “This budget will help ease the cost of living pressures, fund infrastructure to unlock the potential of our regions and guarantee funding for essential services including hospitals, schools, drugs on the PBS, disability support. Under the Liberal and National Government, the nation’s economy will always be stronger, which means local families will be able to get ahead in life,” Mr O’Dowd added.
