GLADSTONE MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL DAY | AUGUST 31 | 10AM TO 8PM | TONDOON BOTANIC GARDENS

Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of our Multicultural Community at the Gladstone Multicultural Festival Day.

In the shade of the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, the celebration will bring together cultures and cuisines from around the world to perform, share, taste, listen and learn about the rich diversity found within our region.

With an exciting new take on one of the region’s most popular festivals, Gladstone Multicultural Association Inc. (GMAI) President, Helena Sant and the committee has evolved the festival into a one-day cultural extravaganza.

GMAI Treasurer Karen Windress said the 2019 year had been a year of change for the Gladstone Multicultural Assoc. Inc. “We have made changes to our committee, rebranding of our logo and re-establishing connections in our community,” Karen said.

Enjoy entertainment in song and dance with traditional dress and customs from around the world. From the smooth movements of the local Arabic Belly Dancers and the Bundaberg PCYC Chinese Dragons and Lions Dance to the tribal sounds of the Urabua Baku Dance Group from the Torres Strait, your senses will be entertained throughout the day.

“Our visitors can expect good old family fun and entertainment, glorious food and bargains to be had from the markets stalls. We are thankful for the great support from our major sponsors, the Gladstone Regional Council and the Queensland Government,” Karen explained.

Be immersed in the rich tapestry of cultural diversity found in the Gladstone Region and enjoy the fun, family-friendly day out.

“Whether we are English, Italian, German, Chinese, or Greek, our society is a melting pot in which nearly half the population is either born overseas, or we have at least one parent who was born overseas,” Karen said. “It’s difficult to imagine Australia without pizza or spaghetti Bolognese. No sushi, no kebabs, no stir-fry. Our food, like our languages, customs and beliefs, reflects our different backgrounds, which we embrace at our Festival day with the message that “everyone belongs”.
