The Annual P&Cs Queensland State Conference was held in Gladstone on the weekend (September 9 & 10) 250 P&Cs members from right across Queensland descended on the GECC to view products and services on offer to help assist their operations, share ideas, celebrate, learn and create connections.
This year’s theme “Back to Basics, Forward to the Future” was an exploration of the basic A B C of running the P&C effectively. Thousands of parents and citizens around the state step up to take their turn to volunteer at their state school P&C each year. The support this provides for schools is invaluable. Aside from helping to run facilities, sports days, music programs, raise funds for school benefit, and assist in the social and community aspect of the school environment, parent engagement is critical to improving student outcomes.
The State Conference is where their ideas, challenges and wins are bought together to discuss as a collective. Keynote speaker Jane Caro, regular on ‘The Gruen Transfer’ and ‘Sunrise’ drew extra attention to the event.
