Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce, has raised alarms over the cancellation of a key backpacker and worker program essential for the region’s farms. Effective from last weekend, the move is expected to intensify the challenges farmers face in bringing food from paddock to plate.
The Harvest Trail program, which ended on June 30, had been a lifeline for Flynn’s farmers, connecting them with thousands of backpackers and jobseekers during the critical harvest period. Boyce emphasised that the program also provided vital background checks, fostering confidence in the agricultural workforce.
