19 May Celebrating Volunteers: Gladstone News’ Volunteer Bob Pailthorpe
Bob Pailthorpe, Gladstone News’ volunteer of more than 15 years said that he has been volunteering since 16, and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
“I’ve been volunteering since I was around 16. My dad was in the ambulance committee, and I used to go out and help them,” said Bob.
Bob has been an invaluable member of the Gladstone News team for more than 15 years he thinks, though it’s been so long he can’t remember the actual number.
“I’ve been at Gladstone News since they were on Hansen Road. I can’t even remember how long ago that was.”
Bob helps the team at Gladstone News out in plenty of different ways, including putting up corflutes around town each fortnight, and helping us out with delivery runs when needed.
“The best part about volunteering is the satisfaction after doing the job. I also love to talk to people, and share some historical stories.”
Bob recently celebrated his 80th birthday, though you would be wrong if you think this means he will start ‘slowing down’.
While this recognition comes at the time of National Volunteers Week, the entire team here at Gladstone News appreciates the care and hard work that Bob puts in every day, of every week.
