The remarkable literary talents of 16 Year 10 students from Chanel College are currently on display at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM), as part of the “Our Priceless Past 2024” exhibition. Unveiled on September 13, the exhibition features life stories of longtime local senior residents including John Bell, Chris Cameron, David Manttan, Ros Newberry, John Roll, Michael Lunan, Douglas Jones, Milton Wright, and Trevor and Cheryl Watson.
Selected for their skill in capturing personal histories, the students took part in the annual Our Priceless Past project, which began in 1999 during the Year of the Older Person. Earlier in Term 3, the students had the opportunity to interview the senior participants, documenting their experiences. To prepare, they attended a writing workshop led by local historian and author, Paulette Flint. Complementing their work, local photographer Michael Richards visited Chanel College to capture striking portraits of the seniors alongside the students.
