26 Jul GET OUTSIDE AND GROW – CELEBRATE THE 20TH NATIONAL TREE DAY
Bill Robertson Toyota is celebrating the 20th year of Toyota Australia and Planet Ark’s National Tree Day with a community tree planting event. The local team recently shared some memories of National Tree Day and the events they have hosted over the years.
Since the beginning of the partnership, the Gladstone car dealership has helped plant thousands of trees at various sites across the region including Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands, Police Creek and Lake Callemondah.
A statement released by National Tree Day organisers explains new research has found that 70% of Australians believe individual actions can have an impact on global environmental issues like climate change.
Off the back of that finding, Toyota Australia and Planet Ark are urging the public to get involved in National Tree Day by highlighting a range of benefits to planting trees. These include;
- A 5% increase in tree cover can reduce nearby daytime temperatures by 2.3C.
- A large healthy tree can sequester up to 93kg of CO2 and 1.4kg of air pollution a year.
- Time spent in green outdoor spaces can lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
- Time in nature reduces stress, improves happiness, wellbeing and productivity.
Want to get involved? Bill Robertson Toyota’s National Tree Day celebration will be held on Sunday, July 28th from 9 am to 12noon at Joe Joseph Park, Lake Callemondah on Alf O’Rourke Drive. This all-ages event will have a free BBQ, games and giveaways. All tree planting equipment is supplied. You will need to wear closed in shoes, sun-safe clothing, and bring a water bottle. No dogs will be allowed on site.
