01 Nov Gladstone Gears Up with the Broncos: Buck to Bronco Coaching Clinic 2023!
Gladstone had the privilege of hosting former Brisbane Broncos players Matt Gillett and Michael Devere for their annual 2023 Buck to Broncos Coaching Clinic at The Wallabies Home ground on Tranberg Street.
During the event, young participants in Gladstone had the unique opportunity to learn from these seasoned Broncos players, gaining valuable insights and improving their skills.
Matt Gillett who is a former Brisbane Broncos Second Row Forward, has shared his thoughts on the recent tour.
“My father was undoubtedly my inspiration to venture into rugby league. I took up the sport relatively late and made my debut at the age of twenty one,” shared Matt.
“My dad constantly encouraged me to give it my all and deliver my best performance every time I stepped onto the field. One of the most significant moments for me was the chance to represent not only the Broncos but also my country when I was selected to play for Australia,”
“Supporting junior rugby league is something that means a lot to me personally. I think it’s fantastic to see what the club is doing and providing young players with opportunities to further develop their skills is really great to see.” explained Matt.
Michael De Vere, a retired Australian former professional rugby league footballer, offered his insights on the team’s Gladstone tour.
“I played for Broncos from the mid 90’s to the mid 2000’s and I’ve also been fortunate enough to play state of origin and to be able to represent my country by playing for Australia,” said Michael.
“When I finished my professional football career, I then decided to return back to the Brisbane Broncos and contribute to the club in coaching and development,”
“I have always held so much passion for the sport and the club and really love the coaching and development side of it. It’s a really great feeling to be able to give back to the game that has been really good to me.” explained Michael.
The Coaching Clinic provided an exciting platform for the kids, aged 5-13, to enhance their abilities in passing, tackling, kicking and team play. Additionally, all attendees received an exclusive Buck to Bronco Membership Pack, which included essential items such as a kicking tee, stationery set, sticker sheets and more.
This initiative not only offered fun and skill development but also fostered a strong connection between the community and their beloved Broncos team.
