02 Dec Gladstone Gymnastics Leader elected to World Governing Body
Kym Dowdell, Gladstone Gymnastics Club’s Technical and Education Manager, has been elected to her seventh term as a member of the Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Technical Authority.
The Women’s Technical Committee provides the technical direction and development of Women’s Gymnastics around the world.
Kym has held various roles within the FIG Technical Committee, including Vice President during her 28-year tenure.
In the provision of leadership and education to the worldwide gymnastic community, Kym has acted as International Jury at seven Olympic Games, including this year’s Tokyo Olympics, and 30 World Championships.
Kym said it was “a great honour to once again be elected to the FIG Women’s Artistic Technical Committee and serve the gymnastics community worldwide”.
“I thank all those who supported my candidacy,” she said.
“With my appointment, I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to further develop the education of our coaches and judges.
“This will allow us to provide a positive learning environment for our athletes”.
Gladstone Gymnastics Club, which boasts 700 members and is the largest club of its kind in Central Queensland, has been part of the Gladstone community since 1977.
The club will relocate to larger facilities within Gladstone’s PCYC Building, as part of the Memorial Park Project, in 2022.
