08 Oct Gladstone Men’s Shed
Men’s Shed Week 2020 was held over the 28th of September to the 3rd of October, to celebrate Gladstone’s own Men’s Shed hosted several memorable events at their Shed at 18 Moura Crescent.
On the 29th Gladstone Men’s Shed completed new additions to the shed funded by the $35,000 Gambling Community Fund Grant. The additions are a short-term solution to continual growth down at the shed while they await a Gladstone Regional Council decision to obtain adjoining land for further structures to be added.
On October 1st MP Glenn Butcher, visited the Shed to view their latest activities and talk to the members. President Ron Steen said,
“All 3 tiers of government have been great supporters of our Shed and we generally receive a visit from each representative once a year, this time being really good that Glenn’s visit coincides with Men’s Shed Week.”
Currently, Gladstone Men’s Shed has a new project to build a portable 9-hole mini-golf course for the Gladstone Regional Council where each hole will represent a different landmark of the region. There are also 2 mud kitchens, among other projects, currently under construction. Thanks to Gladstone Ports Corporation, the very successful Early Childhood Services Project will continue, the program involves giving items free of charge to the early childhood centres in the region.
With the absence of the cruise ship markets, Gladstone Men’s Shed has decided to hold a garage sale at the shed on the Saturday and Sunday 21-22 Nov as part of the Great Australian Garage Sale Trail. This is an opportunity for the public to buy the beautiful items made in the Shed which will also help free up shed space.
