07 Apr Gladstone Orchid & Foliage Society Returns For Easter Weekend
The Gladstone Orchid & Foliage Society will be hosting their annual expo at the Bill Robertson Toyota Showroom for a 50th year.
Irene and Len Dowling, the Treasurer and President, respectively, of the Gladstone Orchid & Foliage Society have always had an interest in growing orchids and foliage.
“After we joined the Society, we learned so much about the plants. I was always interested in gardening, but later in life when I had worked for a lady who was interested in growing orchids, Len and I decided to join the Orchid & Foliage Society. Len was a Vice President for a long time before becoming President, and I became Treasurer in 2005,” said Irene.
“We have created a number of events over the years, like setting up displays for nursing homes and setting up sales and displays for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas at shopping centres.
“We have also done quite a few bus trips to other clubs as well, like the Nambour Home and Garden Show and the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.”
The Gladstone Orchid & Foliage Society have been operating for 52 years, and in that time have only missed the previous two years’ Easter Shows due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
This year, the expo will be back in full swing at the Bill Robertson Toyota showroom, with plants available for display and for sale. The show will be open from Good Friday to Easter Sunday, open at 9am each day.
