GLADSTONE REGION 1770 FESTIVAL – A FESTIVAL FULL OF EXPERIENCES AND MAKING NEW FRIENDS

The 2019 Gladstone Region 1770 Festival has something for everyone, with new features added and the traditional faves remaining, to give every age a great weekend of festivities.

Revolving around ‘Surf, Soul & Sound’, you will have the chance to see and listen to surf legends like 7 x world champion Layne Beachley AO and mix with fishing stars Scott Hillier and Olivia Degn from Creek to Coast, as well as watch and marvel at Tim Egan, champion Freestyle Motocross stuntman.

Festivities begin at 4pm on Friday 24 May with a Re-enactment of Cook’s Landing on the picturesque 1770 Foreshore. This is a free event with food and beverages available for purchase, and a Park and Ride shuttle service for a gold coin donation. Be sure to bring your camera for a memorable 1770 sunset and a great evening of acting and musical entertainment.

The Gladstone Region 1770 Festival continues from 9am on Saturday 25 May with the infamous Street Parade. The displays, floats and costumes will entertain you as they proceed from the 1770 Marina to the Festival Grounds and you even get to vote for your favourite entrant. Prepare to see animals galore, the Gladstone Thistle Bagpipe band, school children and creative community groups.

Following is the official Festival opening, Indigenous welcome, Surf Workshops, Fishing Precinct with competitions and workshops, Just for Kids Zone, Children’s’ Amusement rides, a sensational Soul Garden, Gladstone Region Eco Precinct, many international Food vendors, the Jolly Bustard Bar, Retail stalls and an amazing line-up of live music onstage, including the very famous and oh so energetic 19 Twenty band.

At twilight, on Saturday the superb spectacle of a Children’s Lantern Parade happens throughout the Festival…followed by an awesome Fireworks display in the night sky, sponsored by Agnes Water Tavern. Stay on until 10pm to dance and delight in the sweet sounds and tastes all around the festival.

Sunday 26 May kicks off with the 1770 Fun Run – there are 3 courses to choose from and cash prizes totalling $1770! Be sure to register online for this event now.

The Vanilla Slice War – Grudge Match will be on Sunday also, will we find a new King or Queen for this sweet event…?! The Surf and Fishing workshops and 19 Twenty onstage will keep you entertained until 4pm on Sunday.
