13 Aug Gladstone Relay For Life raises over $10,000 virtually
The Gladstone Relay For Life took over the town on the weekend with the online event bringing locals from all corners together
The virtual event raised over $10,000 with funds still being processed over the coming weeks.
Around 19 registered teams and over 75 participants connected from their homes and phones to celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer, raising vital funds for Cancer Council Queensland’s work in cancer research, prevention programs, and practical support services.
The four-hour event was jampacked with traditional Relay ceremonies and interactive entertainment and activities that saw teams participating across the town.
Participants shared their involvement on social media, connecting with other teams as they took part in challenges and lit up their own candles for the beloved candlelight ceremony.
Teams rallied together to make a difference in the lives of those in impacted by cancer.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan expressed her gratitude to the Gladstone community.
“Around 1,300 are diagnosed with cancer each year in Central Queensland, and Relay For Life enables us to reach out to them every minute, every hour, every day,” Ms McMillan said.
“I would like to thank the Gladstone community for helping us fight back against cancer and showing your incredible support.
“To the local Relay For Life committee, participants, local businesses, and all who donated generously – we express our heartfelt thanks.
“Fundraising events like Relay For Life are instrumental to our work and helping us significantly reduce the burden of cancer on the community.
“The dedication of the Gladstone community to participate in the virtual Relay For Life signifies that, “cancer never rests, so neither do we”.”
