The University of the Third Age (U3A) was founded in France around 50 years ago to provide lifelong learning opportunities to retirees who may not have had access to education earlier in life. Designed to be informal, affordable, and social, U3A encourages people to share knowledge, learn new skills, and build friendships in a relaxed, community setting.
In Gladstone, U3A was established in February 2021 by three passionate local women determined to bring these opportunities to the region’s growing retiree community. What started with just five courses and 50 members in its first term quickly flourished. By the end of their second term, membership had grown to 120 and the course list had doubled. Today, Gladstone U3A boasts 200 members and offers a wide variety of engaging activities each term.
