Groups urged to apply for community event funding

Community groups across the Gladstone Region are being urged to submit expressions of interest for Shell’s QGC Communities Events Program, for local events being held in 2022.

Applications are currently open on SmartyGrants, closing at midnight on December 31.

The program this year contributed over $40,000 to the running of both ongoing and new, local events including Ecofest, Under the Trees, First Lego League, Colour Me Capricorn, the CQ Busking Championships and the GCCI Best in Business Awards.

CQUniversity’s Dr Linda Pfeiffer said hosting the First Lego League in Gladstone was an amazing opportunity.

“The funding provided by Shell’s QGC business allowed for the volunteers, students and coaches to have access to this event in a regional location,” she said.

“Funding subsidized the entry fees for teams, who traveled from as far as Emerald, to compete.”

Tangaroa Blue Foundation Gladstone Region Project Coordinator Ian Anderson said Shell’s QGC Communities Events Program funding assisted in covering expenses such as transporting vehicles and people to and from Curtis and Facing islands for beach cleanup activities under the ReefClean Project.

The Community Events Program is the one opportunity for community groups organising events for the Gladstone Region in 2022 to apply for sponsorship support from Shell’s QGC business.

Groups can apply for funds to help with a variety of event costs, from promotion and advertising costs to hosting event workshops and even associated in-school programs.

Applications can be made for $1000 or more.

Shell’s QGC business’s Asset Manager Midstream Krishna Venkatesan said the Program was about Shell QGC helping bring local events to life and providing opportunities for locals and visitors to celebrate and promote the region.

“The Gladstone Region is a great place to live and visit,” he said.

“Shell’s QGC business has been a part of this community for more than a decade, and we intend to be a part of it for a long time to come.

“The program provides another channel through which we can help the region grow and prosper.”

EOIs for the Community Events Program, to support events held in 2022, can be submitted online via https://shellaustralia.smartygrants.com.au/.

Successful recipients will be advised in February 2022.

Shell’s QGC Community Events Program is supported by its joint venture partners Tokyo Gas and CNOOC.
