Following the stabbing death of 17-year-old Jack Beasley in 2019, legislation has now come into effect allowing police to detect people carrying knives in public.
A trial was conducted between May 2021 and November 2022, with 241 weapons seized and 647 people charged with various offences. Jack’s Law has expanded the designated areas where officers are able to conduct scanning for weapons in all Safe Night Precincts and on public transport.
