Local florist wins national wedding award

At a virtual awards ceremony in January a local floral designer won the Australian Wedding Awards’ 2021 Wedding Florist category, a huge coup for the team who work solely with permanent botanicals.

“We are in shock,” Ginger Says Owner Michelle Wilson said of taking out Australia’s largest regional wedding awards program.

“We were excited to be nominated, and hoped to make it into the Top 10, so to win is absolutely amazing.

“Our aim is for our floral creations to look as realistic as possible, so this award tells me we are doing our job right, and breaking the stigma around artificial flowers.”

With 80 bookings already for permanent botanical weddings in 2022, Michelle said the demand for artificial wedding flowers was only increasing.

“Permanent botanicals have lots of advantages over traditional live floral arrangements,” she said.

“The beautiful couple has control over exactly how the flowers are going to look, nothing is out of season and any colour option is possible.”

“The biggest advantage though at the moment is the convenience, with the flowers lasting and being able to be stored if a wedding has to be postponed; nothing is lost.”

Michelle said her team’s attention to detail and styling had been a major strength they have focused on for the past five years.

“We’ve invested a lot of time in training and perfecting our techniques, learning what works when using permanent botanicals, which are very different to live flowers,” she said.

“Our number one priority is for every bride to adore their flowers, so we spend a lot of time going back and forth working on tones, and making sure it’s cohesive to nail their vision.”

Ginger Says received automatic entry into the 2021 Australian Wedding Awards after taking out the Capricorn & Central Queensland 2021 Brides Choice Awards.

While those awards were decided by popular vote, the Australian Wedding Awards were determined by a judging panel after a rigorous review process.

Michelle said she would like to thank the Australian Wedding Awards Team for the recognition.

“We are very grateful and humbled by our win; thank you also to my team, Emma and Lanie, this award would not be possible without all your hard work,” she said.

“I would also like to thank all the brides who have trusted us with their wedding vision over the years.

“It has been an honour to play a part in making their weddings as special as possible.”
