As the landscape of industry and energy systems in the local region changes, locals are encouraged to share their thoughts on the proposed closure of the Gladstone Power Station in March 2029, with a consultation process beginning as part of the COI, or Community of Interest, process.
The formal COI process is in place to assist the CEO of the Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA), David Shankey, in his decision to determine if the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) is required to facilitate a smooth transition for affected employees and regional workforces. This regulatory framework will require employers to provide their workers with access to career planning, financial advice and training support where requested, assisting them in their transition to future employment.
