Gladstone resident Peter Dougherty has been appointed the new State President of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland, marking a significant milestone for both the local community and one of the state’s leading charitable organisations. Mr Dougherty officially commenced the four year role on 1 June, where he will help guide the Society’s work supporting Queenslanders experiencing hardship, while continuing a commitment to service that has spanned almost three decades.
A long standing member of the Gladstone Conference, Mr Dougherty has dedicated nearly 30 years to assisting people facing challenges including homelessness, financial stress, family breakdown and social isolation. His appointment reflects both his extensive experience and the strong tradition of volunteering within the Gladstone community. Before stepping into the state leadership role, Mr Dougherty served as Diocesan President for the greater Rockhampton region, supporting communities from Mackay to Bundaberg and west to Longreach and beyond. That experience has given him a deep understanding of the pressures facing both regional and remote Queensland communities.
