28 Sep Meet two local Volunteers – Colin & Cheryl Drurey
Meet two Local Volunteers
Names – Colin and Cheryl Druery
Where do you volunteer?
Port Curtis Historical Society Inc, also known as Calliope River Historical Village
How long have you been volunteering there for?
Since 2016
Why do you choose to volunteer?
Colin retired from BSL and thought he would like to give back to the Community by doing some volunteer work. He started working with other Volunteers cleaning and painting Barmundoo Homestead. After joining as a member, he was voted in as President of the PCHS. Cheryl had also started working as a volunteer and is now Secretary
What is your favourite thing about volunteering?
Meeting people from all walks of life and countries. You get a sense of accomplishment from what you do and make friends too.
What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?
Without Volunteers, places like the Port Curtis Historical Village are all going to close and disappear. Our history will be gone, and our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss out on seeing Australian historical life. Don’t wait for some spare time, just give us a call, 49756 764, a few hours a week or a month, it all makes a difference. The Village is run entirely by Volunteer workers, no one receives any payment whatsoever.
