Name: Bobby Pailthorpe
Where do you volunteer?
GEA, Calliope Historical Village, 4CC, Gladstone News and Relay for Life
How long have you been volunteering there for?
All my life, since I was a child. My father volunteered for organisations and I remember helping out from a young age.
Why did you choose to volunteer at the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre?
To keep active, especially now that I have been retired for 3 years. It also makes me feel good, knowing I am supporting my community and also to keep peoples interest in events, such as the Gladstone Yacht Race which I help out with every year.
What is your favourite thing about volunteering?
Meeting people, when I am out and about helping these organisations I meet so many friendly and interesting people. It also gets me out in the community doing things.
What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?
If you’re recently retired come on out to the Calliope Historical Village, they need all types of skilled volunteers there. Do it for the satisfaction of doing something for others and to put your skills to good use. Youth volunteers can learn new skills and get to meet other people too.
Thanks Bobby! Gladstone News appreciate our local volunteers!
