02 Mar TO THE VOTERS OF FLYNN – A MESSAGE FROM KEN O’DOWD – FEDERAL MEMBER FOR FLYNN
To the voters of Flynn,
As many of you are aware, a Federal Government Election will soon be announced. I have been the elected member for Flynn since 2010. As the elected member I have worked hard to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for health and education.
Considering the recent accusations about the Federal Government cutting funding to hospital and schools in our electorate I would like to set the record straight.
There have never been any cuts to funding for state schools or hospitals across Flynn from the Federal Government. The average growth of funding in Flynn for schools is 17.9% and for hospitals is 48.8%. The funding I have secured for Flynn is then provided to the Queensland State Government for disbursement. Capital funding for hospitals and schools is a state government responsibility.
The LNP’s plan for the future will be delivered through strong economic management. The LNP can achieve our plan without increasing taxes by $200 billion and hitting retirees in the hip pocket. Spending more money won’t improve results unless you have a plan on how that investment will improve outcomes.
In return for our Government’s record investment, every state and territory government has committed to introducing significant education reforms as recommended by David Gonski. These reforms will lift education standards. The Federal Government will lead the way on data collection and research to further improve our understanding of performance and to guide future improvement.
The core values of the Liberal National Party provide an objective and timeless foundation party policy and act as the primary filter for Party decisions and behaviour. The values that are important to us are also important to you! We are passionate about families as the foundation of resilient communities and a cohesive society. The LNP is committed to ensuring we are a Government with a sustainable level of debt, which does not unfairly burden future generations but sets them up for success. We believe in a sustainable environment; our policy aims to balance the need to be productive while preserving our natural assets to be enjoyed by future generations.
It is with these core values in mind that I continue to fight for what is fair in Flynn. I urge the voters of Flynn to consider the core values that are important to you when deciding whom you will vote for at the upcoming election. Now is not the time for mud-slinging and name calling. I am committed to delivering real and cost-effective results that will improve and build a better future and a smarter Central Queensland.
Our Government is building a stronger Australia, now and for the future.
