10 Mar On Your Mark: Walking 4 Warriors Set To Take Off This April
The participants at Walking 4 Warriors are tying their shoelaces, and getting ready to undertake the event’s second annual endurance challenge, taking place on the twenty-third of April at Dennis Park.
The event currently has approximately 200 registered participants, with many of those travelling from around Queensland, and some coming from as far as South Australia.
The event organizer, Craig Watson, hopes that in the coming weeks they can recruit a few more people to add to the start line to run, walk, or crawl for up to twenty-four hours.
“The goal behind this Endurance Challenge is simply to demonstrate a level of respect to our Veterans through committing to push our limits and take on a significant challenge. We believe that the mental side of this challenge to keep moving when you are tired, hurting and probably want to quit shows our Veterans that we are willing to suffer for them as they were willing to suffer for us.
“We also have a significant Military contingent participating and supporting the event which creates a fantastic atmosphere.”
All money raised from the event through registrations and merchandise goes directly to our Young Veterans CQ Group, who utilise the funds to support the Veteran community and promote healthy physical and mental well-being.
“We encourage participants to consider the challenge of this event, whether they’re registering for six hours, twelve hours, or twenty-four hours. There is no set distance, but we will do everything we can to support our team mates to reach their goals.
“Even if you don’t want to register, anyone is welcome to come and offer their support at any time during the twenty-four hours, and encourage these brave people to endure for our Veterans.
I’d also like to thank our sponsors: Calliope and district community bank, QAL, High Risk Solutions, Walz, ASN, Halotech, ACES, Warfighter Coffee, Gladstone Regional Council. We are also grateful for the support from our local community groups: Gladstone Road Runners, Our local RSL Sub branches and Young Veterans.”
