The monumental announcement was made on April 11, more than 270 days after the maternity ward was put on bypass.
The change to birthing services in Gladstone means that any mother identified as being a low-risk birth will be able to birth their babies safely, right here in Gladstone. Also being reinstated is access to emergency gynaecological services, which will save women requiring treatment for gynaecology emergencies to receive treatment close to home.
