Gladstone is set to honour its Vietnam veterans at this year’s Vietnam Veterans Day Service, commemorating the 58th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. The service, organised by the Gladstone RSL Sub Branch, will be held at Anzac Park, Gladstone, on August 18th, commencing at 10:30 am.
The Battle of Long Tan, fought on August 18, 1966, in the tropical jungles and rubber plantations of South Vietnam, resulted in the loss of 18 Australian soldiers. The Vietnam War, spanning from 1962 to 1973, claimed 520 Australian lives and stands as Australia’s longest and largest conflict since World War II.
