27 Aug Welcome to Gladstone’s New City Plaza
The Courtyard Upgrade at 100 Goondoon Street Gladstone has been completed by local contractors, G & D Lawrie Builders who engaged a local labour force as well as local suppliers and was project managed by GHD of Gladstone.
The upgrade commenced in October 2019, and after rain interruptions and supply delays due to COVID19, is now open for business.
The development saw the red brick pavers replaced with textured concrete, “monument grey” rendered garden beds, solid timber arbours, abundant lighting, ample seating and a lush lawn, giving the city heart a green space.
The shops and cafes now enjoy modernised levelled terraces for outdoor dining and open space all accessible by a ramp with stainless steel handrails. Council’s footpath was also re-surfaced as part of the works and a new kerb installed to the 7 carparks on the Goondoon Street frontage.
The owners of 100 Goondoon Street (made up of 14 shops, 4 floors of offices and a Hotel) believed the forecourt would be utilised by shoppers, hotel guests, and visitors to relax and enjoy Gladstone’s City Centre and were pleased with the refurbishment which had significantly dated since being built in 1981.
Centre Management also advised that “A new light up entrance sign is being designed which will see the plaza revert to its original name of Gladstone City Centre and future plans include an upgrade to the restroom amenities, new paint colours on the building, re-design of walkway rooves and free WiFi.”
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett:
“Gladstone Regional Council is pleased to have supported the upgrade of 100 Goondoon Street and congratulates the Gladstone City Plaza Body Corporate on delivering a vibrant urban park in the middle of our CBD,” Cr Burnett said.
“This new space will be a focal point for residents and visitors and has provided a great uplift for businesses and services in the City Plaza.”
