30 Jan Book Review – Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep.
Betrayal, death and magic are entwined throughout this story. Magic defines who you are and what you are worth. The one surviving royal is Lady Everleigh or Ever as she likes to be known. Ever watches as her cousin, Vasilia, paves her way in blood to reach the throne. Vasilia believes she has destroyed the rest of the royal bloodline. Unbeknownst to Vasilia, Ever escapes and joins a Gladiator group to become skilled in weaponry. As Vasilia rules by fear Ever realises she must make a choice.
I enjoyed this book, I read it twice, and cannot wait for the second novel in this Crown of Shards series. The protagonist of this book was a very strong female role and she grew into her strength both physically and mentally. I loved the fighting scenes as they were very descriptive. The whole novel was vivid. If you enjoy a book with all the action of fantasy, adventure, mystery and a tiny touch of romance I would recommend this book.
