CONSTRUCTION STARTED AT GLADSTONE HOSPITALS NEW EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Construction work has started at Gladstone Hospital’s state of the art new $42m Emergency Department.

CQ Health Chief Executive, Steve Williamson is thrilled that the work has begun on the much-anticipated Gladstone project. “This new facility fits in with our strategic vision of building a comprehensive general hospital for Gladstone, providing more care, closer to home,” he said. “It will mean that our team of highly skilled and dedicated doctors, nurses and other health professionals will have the tools and environment they need to treat our patients.

The ED Upgrade includes moving the department to the front entrance of the hospital, in a new 3000sq m building, a new main entrance, a linkway to the existing hospital and car park. It will have 36 treatment spaces, more than double the 15 spaces in the current ED.

Contractor Woolam Constructions has set up its site offices at the hospital and has started work building initial trenches this week. It is expected that construction will be complete by mid-2020, and the current ED will be redeveloped to provide an upgraded Specialist Outpatients Department.

Local contractors are invited to a contractor information evening from 5 pm on Wednesday 20 February, to hear about opportunities to get involved in the project. For further details and to register your interest call 1300 WOOLAM or email katie.m@woolamconstructions.com.au by Monday 18 February.
