Story Dogs is a not for profit organisation that are currently helping over 2,625 children each week with their reading skills by pairing them with dogs as reading buddies! The accepting and loving nature of the dogs helps children relax, open up, try harder and have fun while reading which in turn helps their confidence soar. Story Dogs has over 525 volunteer dog teams throughout 298 schools Australia wide.
Many children have difficulties with learning literacy, the Story Dogs sessions occur once a week, spending approximately 20 minutes with each of the children nominated by the school for the program. The sessions provide a non-judgemental setting, where the children’s focus improves and their literacy skills increase.
