The Annual Sport and Active Living Exhibition

Get out and get active with Darius Boyd!

Recently, The Phillip Street Communities and Families Precinct played host to former Broncos fullback Darius Boyd, who shared his knowledge and expertise on how to live and maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Throughout the day, attendees were able to interact with stallholders to learn about sport, active living and wellbeing opportunities. The purpose of the Sports and Active Living Expo, was to encourage locals within the region to ‘Get out and Get Active’. Attendees received information on how to get involved in sports, such as; mountain biking, netball, tennis, squash, hockey, yoga, sailing, group fitness and much more. Participants were also able to join Darius in autograph signings and had the opportunity to participate in a few youth inspired activities as well.

“I grew up in the Gold Coast, in a small family dynamic and rugby league has always been a bit of an outlet for me,” said Darius.

“Throughout my time in the NRL, I learnt that life is about family, friendships, connections and relationships. Ever since then, I’ve been an advocate for mental health and want to help others and give back to my community and to the people who have helped me through my journey.”

“A highlight for myself personally, was playing for the Broncos. It was a dream come true for me, as I never thought that one day I would be the captain of the Broncos. I was a shy and quiet kid growing up and never thought that could be possible for me, but it’s definitely something I’m proud of,” laughed Darius.

“My advice to aspiring young footy players, would be to work hard and have fun. It’s not supposed to feel like a chore, and it’s important to make sure you enjoy the sport. Rugby league is all about having good sportsmanship, but also about having good mate ship too!”
