Recently, I read The Raven’s Wing by Frances Watts. It is a young adult historical novel based around the main character Claudia finding her place in the world. The story, set in Ancient Rome, is about teenager Claudia who is being raised by her aunt and uncle after her mother’s death in the countryside. Claudia is happy and content with her simple country life, but her father sends for her to live with him, her stepmother, and her stepsisters in Rome. Later, she finds out she is being used by her father to help him gain power and prestige. The Raven’s Wing combines historical accuracy with fictional elements to create an engaging and entertaining story. It tells of the trials of growing up in Ancient Rome, of learning how to discover who you are, and how to become the person you want be. Overall, I think anyone with an interest in historical novels would find this book is a good, quick, easy and relaxing read. This book and others by the author can be borrowed from Gladstone Regional Libraries. Thanks to Kiara from Gladstone Regional Libraries.
